Clients

Wiltshire Local Authority; Wiltshire and Swindon Learning & Skills Council; 7 Wiltshire Schools

Background

Our clients were interested in identifying Salisbury students' post-16 plans and whether the current course provision in Salisbury was meeting the students' educational needs.

Methodology

We were commissioned to conduct a paper-based survey in 7 Salisbury Schools. This survey would collect information on:

- The post-16 plans of Salisbury's Year 11 students

- The range of post-16 courses that Year 11 students were planning to study

- The institutions chosen by students for their post-16 education and the factors that influenced their choices;

- Journey times and modes of transport to post-16 educational establishments

- Whether the current course provision in Salisbury is meeting the students' educaitonal needs.

564 Year 11 students from 7 Salisbury schools took part in the study, which consisted of a self-completion questionnaire.

Outcomes

The study produced a series of recommendations which have informed the provision of post-16 courses in Salisbury.
