Equality Mapping in Bath and North East Somerset

Client: Bath and North East Somerset Council (B&NES)
In response to the emerging Equalities Framework, and to support its local equality mapping work, B&NES commissioned Evidence Base to conduct a data audit and analysis of existing intelligence held within national data sources on the diverse population of the Bath and North East Somerset area. The key objectives were:To collate equalities data from national sources for the Bath and North East Somerset area.To assess the true availability and scope of national statistics pertaining to equalities strands for the Bath and North East Somerset area.To analyse and report on the collated equalities data to highlight significant changes and emerging issues with regards to the local population. This work culminated in the production of an Equality Profile for the Bath and North East Somerset area.

Hidden Harm - Identifying a Way Forward for Somerset
Client: Somerset DAAT
The principal aim of this study was to gather sufficient evidence to enable the Somerset DAAT to develop a local strategy to identify and tackle Hidden Harm within the county. The key objectives of the project were to investigate the national context and legislation/guidelines; produce an overview of Hidden Harm literature and research; clarify the definition of Hidden Harm to be used in Somerset; identify lessons learnt from other counties (similar to Somerset); and develop proposals for a way forward for Somerset.  To accompany the publication of the report, a series of workshops and meetings have been held with key stakeholders working across the county.

Evaluation of Somerset Teenage Pregnancy Initiatives
Client: Somerset Teenage Pregnancy Board
Evidence Base was commissioned to evaluate two Somerset teenage pregnancy initiatives - the C-Card and RESPECT award. The key objectives were (1) To assess whether the initiatives are an effective mechanism for reducing teenage pregnancy and STIs among young people; (2) To assess whether the initiatives meet the needs of stakeholders including young people; health service providers; and other young people’s agencies; (3) To take a view on the long-term sustainability of the initiatives; (4) To present conclusions and recommendations for future development.
