Case Study

Beyond the Immediate (BTI) – Phase 2: Conversations with Older People

Clients: Age Concern Wiltshire & Wiltshire County Council

Brief

"Beyond the Immediate" (BTI) is a major research project supported by an Alliance of organisations supporting older people in Wiltshire. The research aims to explore and then quantify the needs, issues and aspirations of older people in Wiltshire now and in the future. Phase 2 was a qualitative study designed to gain an insight into the diverse lives of older people.

Methdology

This project involved interviews and group discussions with 37 individuals over the age of 50.

Outcome

The study has been a major source of insight to those who provide and use services for older people. It has provided a wealth of local evidence which has been of great value to the local public, voluntary and community services, helping them to plan and deliver services that are responsive to the needs of older people. In due course, the BTI project will form the basis of a national toolkit for Age Concern, providing guidance on how to conduct needs assessments with the over 50 population.
